    • A timeline of one student's life. It starts at a single point ("birth"), extending in a straight line through "pre-K - 8th", "high school", and then to "college". At "college", two more lines split off, but quickly fade. On the line that remains, the student, wearing a graduation hat and holding a diploma, stares at the wild mass of lines that has unfolded in front of him. Labeled "the future", they go in a variety of directions (including backwards) and often change direction in unpredictable manners. A couple of them end up in the mouth of giant monsters.

    The Future

    As a senior about to graduate, can you guess what was on my mind? Looking back, I still think this captures the situation quite well.

    This work originally appeared in the Cardinal Courier, the award-winning student-run newspaper at St. John Fisher College, between 2007 and 2011.
