    • "Emergency Notification System": 1: A male student looks at his vibrating cell phone, which says, "Emergency!". 2: As he holds it, the cell phone vibrates more and more violently, saying, "Emergency! Emergency! EMERGEN--" 3: The student flinches as his cell phone explodes in his hand with a bright flash and a "FOOM-!" 4: The student holds a pile of ashes in place of his cell phone. "Emergency," he says to the camera.

    An emergency notification system remains useful as long as doesn't make it impossible to communicate with others during the emergency.

    This work originally appeared in the Cardinal Courier, the award-winning student-run newspaper at St. John Fisher College, between 2007 and 2011.
